This is the itinerary that I followed for my gap year adventure in 2007-2008.
Start in Ottawa, Canada
Sept. 5/07 London, UK – visiting family, going to museums and catching the sights of London as a tourist!
Sept. 15/07 Nairobi, Kenya – with a side trip to Mombassa. Only a 14 hour train ride each direction – apparently the only way to see Kenya and overnighting means we save 2 nights in a hostel.
Sept. 22/07 Start of tour with Oasis Overland. Be sure to check out the complete schedule of events on their website. It’s going to be one wild ride, that’s for sure! I’m most excited for Zanzibar Island, Vic Falls, Etosha Nat’l Park and Namib Dunes but everything sounds amazing: Kenya – Tanzania – Malawi – Mozambique – Zimbabwe – Zambia – Botswana – Namibia – South Africa
Nov. 14/07 South Africa. Tour with Oasis ends but not our African adventure. We take off on our own, probably with Baz bus, making sure we do the tallest bungee in the world, the Garden route and everything else SA has to offer…
Dec. 1/07 Australia. We arrive in Perth and do the West Coast. Then it’s off by plane to Melbourne, hopefully seeing Tasmania, X-mas on the beach and New Year’s in Sydney, and – of course – Uluru. Probably renting our own vehicle for this portion.
Feb. 01/08 New Zealand. Possibly the most excited for this. I will be there over my birthday! Can you imagine spending your birthday in Middle Earth? Umm.. I think I just gave away how much of a LoTR geek I am.
Apr. 1/08 Fiji. A completely necessary pitstop for some R&R.
May 1/08 Singapore overland through Malaysia and Thailand. Currently, Malaysia is my favourite destination in the world. I wonder how much that will change over the next few months. Regardless, I am uber excited for this portion of the trip, and hopefully we can slot in some time in Cambodia.
June 15/08 London.
June ?/08 return to Ottawa. And from there… who knows?
